The five members of the Walton-Verona Board of Education are elected by the community. Individuals do not need to be parents to serve on the Board. At the end of the term, a board member can be re-elected by the citizens in their district. State law does not limit the number of terms a member may serve.
Primarily, the Board has the responsibility of establishing policies by which the schools are operated. Administrators, teachers, and support personnel are employed to carry out these policies.
Community members are welcome to attend. A typical meeting lasts about two hours and generally includes a financial report for the Board's approval; various informational presentations from teachers, staff, and community members. The Board may go into closed or "executive" session to discuss acquisition or sale of property, possible litigation, or matters where confidentiality is important. If you wish to be recognized and speak at a Walton-Verona Board Meeting, please contact the board office at 859-485-4181. Please provide your name and the topic you wish to address.
