Hello and Winter Greetings from WVES,
We survived our first weather-related school delay today! Here are a couple of things to remember as we get further into the cold/snowy season.
First and foremost, we follow the hour and 2 hour delay schedule even for opening the school for morning car riders. Please do not drop off student before the start of the permitted drop off time as there is no supervision and the doors are all locked. For 1 hour delays the morning car riders may begin arriving at 8:45 and for 2 hour delays it would be 9:45.
Please, please, please monitor what your elementary-aged child is wearing to school each day. We tell the students, "You never know when you may have to be outside for a period of time so be prepared." We also just want to teach dressing appropriately for the weather.
On 2 hour delay mornings, there is no school breakfast served.
If we miss a day in the school week for any reason, we do not skip the letter of the day that indicates the special your child would have (ABCDE). Instead, the letter days resume once we do come back to school. So if we had a B day on Monday, then missed Tuesday, when we come back on Wednesday it will be a C day.
Finally from our folks in the cafeteria, this coming week's Christmas meal is scheduled for Wednesday the 14th however, should we miss school, it will be served upon the day we come back.
Unrelated to winter weather, please remember that if you are a morning car rider, have all belongings packed, McDonald's eaten, and kisses given prior to pulling up to the door for student drop off. If disembarking from the car is going to take more than 5-10 seconds, please park and walk your child up to the gym door when ready. We appreciate your help on this in advance.
