Monts de Oca, Faith

8th Grade Science   Mrs. Monts de Oca

Week of August 21st:

*Please be aware that some grades may be low right now.  This is because there is only 1 grade in Infinite Campus and your student’s grade will likely change drastically in the coming weeks.*

Monday:  Students will review layers of the earth from last week and discuss the solar eclipse!

Tuesday through Friday:  Students will work on the learning target:  I CAN:  describe how plate tectonics influences the formation of volcanoes.  This will include reviewing the plate boundaries, understanding where explosive volcanoes are located versus calm volcanoes, and what causes some volcanoes to be more explosive than others.  Students will take notes, draw pictures, give examples and make connections.

Our first Quiz will be Tuesday, August 29th.  Students will be instructed to study throughout the week instead of just the night before.  Students should first focus on vocabulary words, but work towards making connections between vocabulary words.

  Student Expectations:
1. Come to school!  If you miss class, YOU are responsible for getting your work, completing it and turning it in on time.
2. Have your materials ready.  Something to write with, paper, and your organized binder.
3. Be ready to work.  There is a time and place for goofiness, and it isn't always science class :)
4. Communicate with me.  I can't help you if I don't know you need help!
5. Outside work.  For most students, it is NECESSARY to study outside of class.  5-15 mnutes of review at home a day can boost your knowledge and scores dramatically.
